PASTOR'S CORNER
Theme of the Year: Our Year of New Heights (Lev. 26:13
& Phil. 3:13, 14)
Theme of the Month: Oracles of God (1 Peter 4:11).
Topic: Oracle of God’s Goodness
God’s goodness is infinite. God is consistently good to
His creatures from creation till now and till eternity He will be faithfully
good to us. As we speak the mind of God, we must consistently talk about His
goodness with deep sense of appreciation. Our salvation comes as a result of
His goodness. In order for the yet to be saved to believe in the Almighty God,
we must speak about His goodness for the unbelievers to know what they are
missing for not giving their lives to Christ.
It is important to set aside time to reflect on God’s
goodness to us — which is what we do in this church every last Sunday of the
month. Of course, thanking God for His goodness to us must be daily in our
individual lives. No matter what you might be going through right now, God has
blessed you far more than you probably imagine — not just with material goods,
but with family, with good health and with the ability to enjoy His blessings.
The Bible says, “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for
you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
Most of all, God has blessed us by giving us the
privilege of knowing Him and walking with Him every day. He did this by sending
His Son into the world to die for our sins. As you participate in thanksgiving
today, may you celebrate the greatest gift of all by inviting .Jesus Christ to
come into your life. Then thank God for all His blessings — not just today, but
every day of your life.
Ingratitude is a sin, just as surely as is lying or
stealing or immorality or any other sin condemned by the Bible. One of the
Bible's indictments against rebellious humanity is that "although they
knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him"
(Romans 1:21). An ungrateful heart is a heart that is cold toward God and
indifferent to His goodness, mercy and love. It is a heart that has forgotten
how dependent we are on God for everything.
From one end of the Bible to the other, we are commanded
to be thankful. In fact, thankfulness is the natural outflowing of a heart that
is attuned to God. The psalmist declared, "Sing to the Lord with
thanksgiving" (Psalm 147:7). Paul wrote, "Be thankful"
(Colossians 3:15). A spirit of thanksgiving is always the mark of a joyous
Christian.
The Psalmist taught us so many reasons why we should
always be thankful to God and the basis is God’s goodness to us. Psalm 107:1
says “O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endures
forever. A spirit of thankfulness is one of the most distinctive marks of God’s
oracles. Thank God in every situation you find yourself today and always for
the Lord is good!
