CHURCH BULLETIN

28 February, 2016 PASTOR'S CORNER Topic: Fulfilling God’s will in Thanksgiving 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you". There are so many scriptures asking us to give thanks to God for various reasons like: God is good, merciful, kind, His love endures for ever and so on. Thanksgiving and praise always go together. We cannot adequately praise and worship God without also being thankful. Feeling and expressing appreciation to God is really good for us. Just as human being likes to be appreciated God is to be much more appreciated. God wants us to learn to be thankful for all the gifts He has given us. It is for our good to be reminded that everything we have is a gift from the Almighty God. When we fail to remember this we tend to think that it is by our power or effort we attain or achieve all we possess. Thanksgiving keeps our hearts in right relationship with the Giver of all good gifts. Regular...

February 28, 2016 Growing Up Dave Branon Ephesians 4:1-16 From him the whole body . . . grows and builds itself up in love. Ephesians 4:16 Watching my young grandson and his friends play T-Ball is entertaining. In this version of baseball, young players often run to the wrong base or don’t know what to do with the ball if they happen to catch it.  If we were watching a professional baseball game, these mistakes would not be so funny. It’s all a matter of maturity. It’s okay for young athletes to struggle—not knowing what to do or not getting everything exactly right. They are trying and learning. So we coach them and patiently guide them toward maturity. Then we celebrate their success as later they play with skill as a team. Something similar happens in the life of those who follow Jesus. Paul pointed out that the church needs people who will “be patient, bearing with one another in love” (Eph. 4:2). And we need a variety of “coache...

Prayer My Father, may I ever be kept in remembrance of my virtue, and may I be sensitive to its strength. As I go on my way, keep me within control of the impetuous desires of my nature, and in call of the duties and obligations of my daily life. Amen

February 27 Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. – Matt 5:16 Lives of great men all remind us We can make our lives sublime, And, departing, leave behind us Footprints on the sands of time— Footprints that perhaps another, Sailing o’er life’s wintry main, A forlorn and shipwrecked brother, Seeing, shall take heart again. — Henry W. Longfellow. They are slaves who fear to speak For the fallen and the weak; They are slaves who will not choose Hatred, scoffing, and abuse, Rather than in silence shrink From the truth they needs must think; They are slaves who dare not be In the right with two or three. — James Russell Lowell. Prayer Merciful Father, help me to know that my shadow cannot fall without me, and that my footprints cannot be found where I have never trodden. I pray that thou wilt make me so familiar with the right path that it may be mine to h...

February 27, 2016 TAKING NOTICE Job 40:1-14 “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?” Job 38:4 When I clean my house for a special event, I become discouraged because I think that guests won’t notice what I clean, only what I don't clean. This brings to mind a larger philosophical and spiritual question: Why do humans more quickly see what's wrong than what's right? We are more likely to remember rudeness than kindness. Crimes seem to receive more attention than acts of generosity. And disasters grab our attention more quickly than the profound beauty all around us. But then I realize I am the same way with God. I tend to focus on what He hasn't done rather than on what He has, on what I don't have rather than on what I have, on the situations that He has not yet resolved rather than on the many He has. When I read the book of Job, I am reminded that the Lord doesn't like this any more than I do. After years of experiencing prosperity, Job suffer...

AWESOME GOD" indeed

Forwarded msg. THIS REALLY TOUCHED ME! COS EACH TIME I WATCHED HER PERFORMANCE I LOVED HER ACTING! NEVER KNEW.... Hmmmm Delay is not denial! Mushroom is made overnight but an oak tree can take 100 years!  Now, let me blow your mind a little again today, as a way of showing to you that there's nothing my God cannot do. Maybe Pastor Toyin Oke who played the role of Ayamatanga (the evil nurse) in one of The Mount Zion's popular movie, is known to many, but not many know she just got married in June 2015. At what age? Oh, you have to read on to get that. According to the story (testimony) shared by Dr Moses Aransiola, January this year, himself and his wife, who is an older sibling of this daughter of Zion, proposed to her to adopt 2 children and move on with her life; since marriage wasn't forthcoming. As he said, that wasn't because they were hopeless nor faithless, but because they have prayed all manner of prayer and waited on God till they didn't know what to do ...

How to minister in spirit and in truth(music ministers)

I saw this and i thought to share. How to minister in spirit and in truth(music ministers) 1) Pray before any ministration, if possible fast for your ministrations ministers and avoid sin. 2) Be addicted to the word of God. In fact memorize them. 3) Do not take any ministration with levity. All ministration in the church are VERY important to God. 4) Do not seek for human appreciation or glorification before or after your ministration. Only God can appreciate you if you have put in your very best. 5) Learn new songs, new ways of praising God. In fact learn an instrument or two. 6 ) Be creative with your songs and the way you play your instrument. The bible records David played skillfully in the bush. 7) Rehearse, Rehearse and do more rehearsals. David was always playing in the bush, that was his way of rehearsing. 8) Do not compete, competition leads to strife and hatred. It means you are ministering from the flesh. You are unique. 9) Do not be envious of other people. Only y...

They shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. 8 The LORD will command the blessing on you in your barns and in all that yo...

February 26, 2016 How to Grow Old Lawrence Darmani Isaiah 46:4-13 I will sustain you and I will rescue you. Isaiah 46:4 “How are you today, Mama?” I asked casually. My 84-year-old friend, pointing to aches and pains in her joints, whispered, "Old age is tough!" Then she added earnestly, "But God has been good to me." “Growing old has been the greatest surprise of my life,” says Billy Graham in his book Nearing Home. "I am an old man now, and believe me, it's not easy." However, Graham notes, "While the Bible doesn't gloss over the problems we face as we grow older, neither does it paint old age as a time to be despised or a burden to be endured with gritted teeth.” He then mentions some of the questions he has been forced to deal with as he has aged, such as, “How can we not only learn to cope with the fears and struggles and growing limitations we face but also actually grow stronger inwardly in the midst of these difficulties?" ...

February 25, 2016 GO FEVER Tim Gustafson Numbers 14:39-45 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him. Psalm 37:7 On January 28, 1986, after five weather-related delays, the space shuttle Challenger lumbered heavenward amid a thunderous overture of noise and flame. A mere 73 seconds later, system failure tore the shuttle apart, and all seven crewmembers perished. The disaster was attributed to an O-ring seal known to have vulnerabilities. Insiders referred to the fatal mistake as “go fever”—the tendency to ignore vital precautions in the rush to a grand goal. Our ambitious human nature relentlessly tempts us to make ill-advised choices. Yet we are also prone to a fear that can make us overly cautious. The ancient Israelites demonstrated both traits. When the 12 scouts returned from spying out the Promised Land, 10 of the 12 saw only the obstacles (Num. 13:26-33). “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are,” ...

Congregants flee. "Devil appear "

Congregants flee church after the ‘devil’ appears BY  THSEPO  · FEBRUARY 16, 2016 Worshipers at a Pentecostal church sustained minor injuries after a naughty 15-year-old boy caused a stampede. The faithful bolted out of the church, falling over each other after the alleged rascal, hidden from their view, pretended to be ‘the devil’ and scared them stiff. It all began after worshipers closed their eyes and began chorusing a prayer before the sermon could begin. The boy is said to have tiptoed and picked the extra microphone at the lectern before hiding behind two loudspeakers. All of sudden, the churchgoers heard a booming voice with devilish guttural sounds rasping through the church public address system, announcing that they were now in hell and the voice speaking belonged to the devil himself. After a loud silence rent the air, the ‘devil’ ordered all those who truly believe in God to raise their hands, to which none responded....

February 24, 2016 THE FORWARD LOOK David McCasland Luke 2:21-35 Simeon . . . was righteous and devout . . . and the Holy Spirit was on him. Luke 2:25 When the great Dutch painter Rembrandt died unexpectedly at age 63, an unfinished painting was found on his easel. It focuses on Simeon’s emotion in holding the baby Jesus when He was brought to the temple in Jerusalem, 40 days after His birth. Yet the background and normal detail remain unfinished. Some art experts believe that Rembrandt knew the end of his life was near and—like Simeon—was ready to “be dismissed” (Luke 2:29). The Holy Spirit was upon Simeon (v. 25), so it was no coincidence that he was in the temple when Mary and Joseph presented their firstborn son to God. Simeon, who had been looking for the promised Messiah, took the baby in his arms and praised God, saying: “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, ...

Pastor's Corner (Bulletin)14 Feb 16

Topic: LET GOD HAVE HIS WAY. When you pray for God’s will to be done in your life, do you really let God do as you have requested? We all have dreams that we are believing for and situations we want to see turn around. Too often, we put God in a box and tell Him how to do it, when to do it, and who to use to do it.  The only problem is, God’s ways are not our ways: Isaiah 55:8 says “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. God does not always do things the logical way, God uses untraditional methods, He is unconventional; it may not always make sense to our mind.  If you have these preconceived ideas of how you are going to be promoted, get well, it will limit what God can do.  You have to stay open, let God out of your box; you may only see one way that it could happen, it is obvious, you need to get that promotion so you will have the funds to accomplish your dreams.  When things do not wor...

February 23, 2016 A Better View Jennifer Benson Schuldt Luke 19:1-10 Because he was short he could not see over the crowd. Luke 19:3 As a child, I loved to climb trees. The higher I climbed, the more I could see. Occasionally, in search of a better view, I might inch out along a branch until I felt it bend under my weight. Not surprisingly, my tree-climbing days are over. I suppose it isn’t very safe—or dignified. Zacchaeus, a wealthy man, set aside his dignity (and perhaps ignored his safety) when he climbed a tree one day in Jericho. Jesus was traveling through the city, and Zacchaeus wanted to get a look at Him. However, “because he was short he could not see over the crowd” (Luke 19:3). Fortunately, those things did not stop him from seeing and even talking with Christ. Zacchaeus’s plan worked! And when he met Jesus, his life was changed forever. “Salvation has come to this house,” Jesus said (v. 9). We too can be prevented from seein...

Bible study

Foursquare Gospel Church 57 Igbosere Road, Lagos. Bible Study Outline Theme: Thy Will be done Topic: Knowing the Will of God Text: Luke 11:2; Rom 12:1-2 Introduction: Understanding the will of God is a duty that God has given to mankind, therein lies the yardstick for measuring how successful our journey through life is. The will of God is not hidden, but rather it is revealed to us through the Word of God. God does not bypass our minds when it comes to His will for us. That's why Paul said in Ephesians 5:17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.  God wants us to understand His will far more than we want to understand it. He always makes His will clear to those who seek it with an obedient heart. Basic will of God for us: 1. Salvation. (1 Timothy 2:3-4; 2 Peter 3:9) 2. Spirit-filled. (Ephesians 5:17-18) 3. Sanctified (1 Thessalonians 4:3-7) 4. Submissive (1 Peter 2:13-15) 5. Suffering (Philippians 1:29; 2 Timothy 3:12...
