Bible Study Outline
Theme: Thy Will be done
Topic: Knowing the Will of God
Text: Luke 11:2; Rom 12:1-2
Introduction:
Understanding the will of God is a duty that God has given to mankind, therein lies the yardstick for measuring how successful our journey through life is. The will of God is not hidden, but rather it is revealed to us through the Word of God. God does not bypass our minds when it comes to His will for us. That's why Paul said in Ephesians 5:17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. God wants us to understand His will far more than we want to understand it. He always makes His will clear to those who seek it with an obedient heart.
Basic will of God for us:
1. Salvation. (1 Timothy 2:3-4; 2 Peter 3:9)
2. Spirit-filled. (Ephesians 5:17-18)
3. Sanctified (1 Thessalonians 4:3-7)
4. Submissive (1 Peter 2:13-15)
5. Suffering (Philippians 1:29; 2 Timothy 3:12)
Means of knowing the will of God
1. The word of God. God will never ask us to do something contrary to his Word, but he demands obedience in the clearly written word. Cultivate the habit of spending time in His Word. When you seek God through His word in your life, God will begin to reveal His plans for your life. Duet 29:29; Luke 4:4; Rom 10:17. Do not joke with every opportunity to hear or study the word of God
2. Obedience to God’s word. Rom. 1:5. If we do not obey the things that God has shown us clearly to be His will, why would we think He would reveal any further information regarding His plan for our lives? Obedience is an important first step.
3. Godly Counsel. Prov. 11:14. One key component to finding God’s will is to seek the input of godly advisors in your life. If you don’t currently have at least two godly mentors, then it is highly recommend that you seek them out right away. The church is designed to help you greatly with this. But you have to be involved in church activities to get the best attention in this regard.
4. Paying attention to how God has wired you. 1 Peter 4:10. God has created you to fulfill a specific role in this world. There is no one else who can achieve completely what God has purposely created you to do.God has gifted every one of us to perform a special mission for which we alone were created. So, when you seek to discover God’s will for your life, pay attention to how He has gifted you. His plan for you will always be directly related to the gifts that He has bestowed upon you. The great news is that you will automatically be good at whatever it is that He has called you to do.
5. Listen to God’s Spirit. John 10:27. God speaks to us through His Spirit communicating with our spirit. This occur mostly when we are in a calm condition.
Conclusion:
If you will seek God's will, determining to do it even before you know what it is, if you will look to Him while responding to His voice in the Bible, then God will reveal His way and direct you in ever widening and ever more interesting paths. He will be close to you, and He will lead you in the way that you should go.
