PASTOR'S CORNER (3 APRIL 2016)

THEME OF THE YEAR: UNCOMMON REWARD (GEN. 15:1)

THEME OF THE MONTH: ABIDING PRESENCE OF GOD (EXODUS 33:13-18)

TOPIC: THE MANIFEST PRESENCE OF GOD (1 TIM. 1:2)

God is Omnipresent. But we talk about two dimensions of His presence. Although He is everywhere, He is not always active everywhere. Since He created the earth for man, He rarely steps into human scenes uninvited. Only those whose lives are offered to Him through faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ can experience the two dimensions of His presence as their situation requires.

His abiding presence will always be with such people. Whenever the situation calls for it, they will experience His manifest presence that will deliver them from all the evils that the enemy launches against them.

We can enjoy both the abiding presence and the manifest presence as we focus on Christ in our daily lives through faith in His redemption. Awareness that we now belong to Him and regular commitment of all that we are to Him in prayer will do the magic. He will respond with revelation to prepare us (Jer. 33:3). Such a union will transform our hearts and environments and keep it aglow with the beauty of heaven. All that God allows us to have access to for our comfort should not replace Him in our lives, whether they are materials or men.

No matter how godly a servant of God is, it should be remembered that he is man with limitations. His presence should draw our attention to the God that he represents, not to him or the benefits we derive from Him.

The Bible says that the children of Israel turned to idol as soon as Moses delayed in returning from the presence of God on the mountain.  "When the people saw that Moses had not come down from the mountain but was staying there a long time, they gathered around Aaron and said to him, "We do not know what has happened to this man Moses, who led us out of Egypt; so make us a god to lead us." (Exodus 32:1).

Apostle Paul drew the attention of Timothy to some benefits that are present with God in 1 Timothy 1:2. He said "Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord". Grace, mercy and peace are found abundantly with God and we need all of these in our journey in life. Our association with the servants of God can facilitate it, but it cannot replace the presence of God and its benefits.

Not even angels can adequately replace Him in our lives. No wonder, in Gen. 33:2 God promised to send His angel to lead the Israelites but Moses prayed in verse 15 as follows: If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. When we call on God He is always ready to be there for us. May we find Him always when we need Him in Jesus' name.
