Topic: Celebrating the Given Son
The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” – Luke 2:10-12.
Christmas is a glorious season of the year. It is widely celebrated all over the world by believers and mostly unbelievers. It is also a busy time for most of us. It is my hope and prayer that we may not become so caught up in the pressures of the season that we place our emphasis on the wrong things and miss the simple joy of commemorating the birth of the Saviour of the world. Real celebration of Christmas comes not in the hurrying and the scuttling to get more done. We best celebrate Christmas when we make the given Son the focus of the season.
Born in a stable, cradled in a manger, He came forth from heaven to live on earth as mortal man and to establish the kingdom of God.
His glorious gospel reshaped the thinking of the world. He lived for us, and He died for us. What can we, in return, give to Him? John the Baptist was sent to prepare people for the coming of Jesus. He told them to repent of their sins and prepare their hearts for the coming of the promised Messiah. "What should we do?" they asked. John answered them, "If you have two coats, give one of them to the one who has none. If you have food, share it with those who have none." (Luke 3:10-11).
That is the same message we need to share today as we celebrate the Christmas. If we want to experience the real joy that Jesus wants for us, then we must learn to share. By sharing what God has so generously given to us, we will receive an even greater gift - the gift of joy. Not even only that, we make heaven to rejoice too when our sharing lead to salvation of soul(s) because the Bible says, “Likewise I say to you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents”. (Luke 15:10).
How do you think God feels after sacrificing His own Son so that you could have eternal life and be spared from judgment, only to hear you say, “Thank you, but I cannot accept that; I’m just not interested”? It doesn’t matter how politely you turn down an offer like that. Any refusal of such a sacrificial offer is an insult at best. The world may give you superficial happiness, but it will not last. The only way to know the deep, abiding joy God wants you to have is to be reconciled to Him by receiving His gift, the given Son, who is Christ the Lord. It is the greatest gift you could ever receive, but it only brings great joy if you accept it. Have you accepted this best gift ever?
The best Christmas gift is Jesus bringing peace and forgiveness to mankind.
HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
