Topic: Family Influence in Spreading
the Gospel
Family is the basic unit of a society
consisting of father and mother who co-operatively live together and care for
their biological or adopted children. God in His design for mankind places
special care and attention on family. This was demonstrated by God right from
the creation. After God created man He went ahead to provide a woman as
companion for him so that he will not be alone and also for the man to be able
to effectively fulfil his purpose of existence. God created the first home. He
formed Adam from the dust of the ground. What was dust became life as God
breathed into the nostrils of Adam and gave him a living soul. Adam was
unspotted and innocent in his form and yet he was lonely. God created woman and
she united with Adam in holy wedlock. God blessed the two and commanded them to
cultivate and care for the earth. It was in this place we often refer to as the
Garden of Eden; the first home was established as a unit of society.
Home is where the basic gospel
tenents are taught and illustrated by Godly parents who love the Lord. Love,
faith, hope, and charity reside in a godly home. Many Christian homes today are
not doing enough to positively influence their children and other people around
them to serve the Lord. In the Book of Joshua Chapter 24 we saw the account of
Joshua how he lived his life such that his family and people of his time chose
to serve the Lord. The influence of Joshua outlived generations after him.
(Joshua 24:31). What are you living for and what influence do you have on your
children or people within your family?
God has a purpose for each family. It
is not merely to have fun and enjoy each other’s company for a lifetime. His
desire is for the family to produce spiritually and emotionally mature human
beings who in turn get the work of God done in the earth. This is the ultimate
reason for getting married. This is the ultimate reason for forming a family.
Every Christian family should realize early after its formation—or even
before—that it has a special calling from God to fulfill the end time mandate.
The Bible gives us an
incontrovertible sign of the end time that all believers must give their
attention in Matthew 24:12-14. "And
because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall
endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom
shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then
shall the end come".
Every Christian couple has the
calling of God upon their lives to use their influence to promote values of
Kingdom of God. The whole family — both
parents and all the children - God wants us to produce fruits that will abide
in Christ and outlive us as Joshua did. I pray for you and your family that God
will open your eyes to see the purpose of your existence and grant you grace to
effectively fulfil the purpose.
May God bless every family and every parent
with the strength and wisdom to do their part in building people and a society
that glorify Him.
